Itinerary

Itinerary
Today morning head to your shinkansen to start your tour. We then visit Yamadera, a scenic temple snuggled high up in the mountains northeast of Yamagata City. Founded in AD 860 as a temple of the Tendai Buddhism sect, the temple complex comprises of various sites of religious importance along with other smaller temples that dot the mountain slopes. Then, enjoy a bout of shopping in the heart of Yamagata city before making your way to Zao Onsen. Located at the foot of the Zao Mountain Range, the popular skiing and hot spring resort offers an amazing experience whether you opt for a thrilling slope run or a relaxing onsen soak.
Begin your day with a stop at Zao's Okama Crater, a beautiful water-filled crater that strikingly resembles an 'okama' cooking pot, thus giving it its name. Thereafter, pay a visit to Zao Dairy Farm Center, where you'll get to sample its renowned dairy products such as cheese and ice cream. You'll also get to try an Ice Cream DIY Making Experience! Last but not least, go on a Geibikei Gorge boat ride and bask in the serene splendour of nature. Float along on a flat-bottomed boat that is navigated by a boatman with a pole as you admire the lovely scenery of towering cliffs, rock formations and verdant foliage.
After breakfast, make a trip to a Sake Brewery in Tohoku to learn how the region's famous sake is produced via a mix of traditional and modern processes. Next, drop by Inakadate Village to view its unique and intricate rice paddy art. Ingenious art murals are created across the sprawling paddy fields by planting different rice crops of different colours, drawing thousands of tourists to this quiet village for a deeper understanding of the manual work behind rice farming and agriculture. Thereafter, continue on to admire the picturesque nature surrounding Oirase Stream, which meanders along the Oirase Gorge floor and winds through dense, thick trees. Then visit Lake Towada, the largest caldera lake on Honshu, Japan's main island. Proceed to your hotel for overnight stay.
Kick-off the day with a visit to Mount Hakkoda as you take a ride on the Mount Hakkoda Ropeway. Be mesmerised by magical views of the surrounding nature and its seasonal transformations. Next, enjoy a unique fruit picking experience in a blueberry farm, which spans an area of 11 square metres (subject to weather conditions). You'll get to harvest different varieties of blueberry here, such as the early-ripening variety which is suited to the cold and with just the right sweetness, or the slow-ripening variety. Then, begin your local homestay experience, where you'll be welcomed by the warm hospitality of a local family and immerse yourself into the everyday life of the Japanese in the city of Kesennuma.
Today, you'll get to enjoy a Tono Farming experience, where you can try harvesting organic vegetables and fruit, as well as run daily errands on the farm with your local family, such as going to the supermarket to buy food, daily necessities and souvenirs, cook and have a meal with them, or simply explore the farm and the surrounding town on bikes. Thereafter, proceed to Matsushima Bay for a sightseeing cruise of the picturesque bay. Bask in the beautiful scenery that is named as one of Japan's three best scenic views, dotted with more than 200 small, pine-clad islands. Then, head to Sendai Ichibancho Shopping Arcade for a spot of shopping.
Daytrip to visit the beautiful Funaoka mountain. Be mesmerized by the beauty of the place and majestic Funaoka castle park. The Shibata Cherry blossom festival is held here in April and is one of the most popular sights for cherry blossom. You can use the slope car for the 305 m distance from the parking lot to the park summit. There is a 24 m standing Funaoka Peace Kannon on the summit and a panoramic view of the whole town of Shibata as well as the Zao mountains and the Pacific Ocean.
After breakfast, transfer to the station and subsequently to the airport for your flight home. We hope you enjoyed your vacation with Kulin Kumar Holidays, and we look forward to seeing you again for your next trip.
